You should have your current system replaced if:

- Your energy bills are increasing in cost. The amount an energy-efficient new system saves you each month should offset its cost over time.
2. How do I go about replacing my current system?
Contact your Carrier dealer. He or she will inspect your equipment to determine if parts can be salvaged or must be replaced. Once a thorough examination is complete, your dealer can then help you choose a new system and install it.
3. Will I have to replace my indoor coil as well?
Most probably, yes. If your new condensing unit is not matched with the proper indoor coil, it may not give you the promised SEER and/or HSPF ratings and could even develop performance problems. When you replace an existing system, ask your Carrier dealer to replace both units for optimal performance, efficiency and comfort.
4. Which Carrier equipment will best fit my home?
There are many factors that affect the sizing and specifications of your system, including square footage, insulation, window surface and configuration, geographic location of your home, duct sizing and arrangement, and many others. Contact your Carrier dealer for a free in-home and payback analysis. This will help determine which equipment combinations will perfectly suit your home, your budget, and your family's needs.
5. How much will a new system cost?
How much you actually spend on a new system depends on the size of your home, the type and condition of your existing ducts and whether or not you need additional equipment, like thermostats or air cleaners. Please contact your local Carrier dealer for a quote on his or her equipment and labour pricing.
6. Will my Carrier dealer install my system as well?
Yes. Your dealer will assess your home’s configurations, make sure that your ductwork is correctly sized and placed, and install your new system. You won’t have to worry about a thing!
7. What is the life expectancy of my unit?
Dependable Carrier products are among the longest lasting heating and cooling products available. The average air conditioner lasts 12-15 years, while a gas furnace can last 20-25 years. There are many variables that affect the life expectancy of your specific equipment, including the frequency of routine maintenance. For a better idea of your system’s lifespan, contact your Carrier dealer.
- Heat pumps and oil-base furnaces and boilers should be inspected annually.
- Gas furnaces should be serviced every other year.
- Blowers need to be lubricated, cleaned and adjusted regularly.
- Faulty electronic thermostats should be replaced.
- Humidifiers should be cleaned regularly and unplugged when not in use.
- 1” filters should be replaced monthly, and 4” to 6” changed twice a year.
- Ducts should be cleaned to reduce pollutants and allergens.

9. What does my warranty cover?
Under the standard factory warranty, Carrier covers parts that fail during the warranty period due to a defect in the part. The warranty does not cover labour. A warranty certificate was included with your homeowner information packet, and is specific to the model numbers, serial numbers and installation dates of your products. If you cannot find your warranty certificate, your Carrier dealer will also be able to provide you with the information.
10. Where can I purchase parts for my Carrier system?
Your Carrier dealer is the best resource for identifying and supplying the most appropriate parts for your system at a fair price and according to your availability.
11. Why can't I find the correct size furnace filter at my local home improvement store?
The filter shipped with your Carrier unit is made from higher quality materials than those of the disposable filters found in retail stores. For that reason, replacement Carrier filters can only be purchased through a Carrier dealer. However, keep in mind that Carrier filters are reusable, and can be washed by hand in cold water.
12. Where can I find owner’s manuals, installation guides, product specifications and other literature about my Carrier products?

13. I need help troubleshooting a problem with my equipment.
Your Carrier dealer is your troubleshooting expert, and is glad to help you. In addition, Carrier also provides a network of troubleshooting technicians at Carrier Distribution centers across the country. Should your dealer encounter a situation that requires additional factory help, just ask him or her to contact their Carrier Service Manager for assistance.

17. I am an Architect and need application/specification information for Carrier products. Where do I obtain this information?
The Carrier distributor for your area can provide you with the specifications, and can also set you up to access the Carrier HVAC partners web site so that you can access the information yourself. If you are seeking specifications on older equipment, so as to specify something similar, it will be helpful if you have the model and serial number available.
18. What is a ductless mini-split system?
A ductless mini-split system is a small central air unit that can both heat and cool rooms. It is made up of an indoor evaporator that is connected to an outdoor condenser. Unlike central air systems, they can cool specific rooms instead of the whole house. They are also smaller, more affordable, easier to install and more efficient than central air systems. Contact your Carrier dealer to see if this system will suit your needs.
19. Can anyone install a ductless mini-split system and how long does it take?
Only certified HVAC contractors, like your Carrier dealer, are authorized to install ductless mini-split systems. This can take anywhere from a few hours to an entire day to do and will depend on the size of the system. Contact your Carrier dealer for a better estimate.
21. Can I purchase a ductless mini-split from an online dealer?
No. Carrier units are made from superior materials to those used in regular units. For this reason, Carrier will not install or guarantee a unit not purchased from a Carrier dealer.
23. Why is my home so humid in summer?
Indoor humidity varies with outdoor conditions. Ask your Carrier dealer if a dehumidifier or air conditioner is right for you.
24. What is a seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER)?
The Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio is a measure of the cooling efficiency of your air conditioner or heat pump. The higher the SEER number, the more efficient the system is at converting electricity into cooling power.
25. Why is the SEER rating on the Energy Guide different than what my dealer quoted?
Each split system cooling unit has a nominal SEER rating. This rating can be increased with the upgrade of the indoor unit. The SEER rating of a system is derived based on the combination of equipment installed in the home. The outdoor equipment (heat pump or air conditioner), as well as the indoor equipment (evaporator coil and furnace, or air handler), play a vital role in the rating. 26. What is a Puron® Refrigerant?
Puron® Refrigerant is an environmentally sound refrigerant designed not to harm the earth’s ozone layer. Federal law requires that all manufacturers phase out ozone depleting refrigerants. Puron® Refrigerant is approved by the US Environmental Protection Agency as a replacement from Freon 22*.
27. How do I ventilate my crawlspace?
A crawlspace requires its own ventilation system, one that is separate from the rest of your house. Your Carrier dealer is your best source for ventilation services.
28. Why is there condensation on my windows even with a ventilation system?
The quality of your windows, curtains or other obstructions, the indoor temperature, wind factors and dramatic outdoor conditions could all be responsible. A Carrier dealer will be able to help pinpoint the problem.
29. My indoor system is dripping on the inside. What do I do?
Call your Carrier dealer to find out if the drain or pump is clogged and have him or her service it.
